Students Gather at Leadership Summit
Albuquerque, NM - Futures for Children will host its largest Youth Leadership Summit since the program began in 1986. Over 160 American Indian students and 50 community volunteers will gather Friday and Saturday, April 28-29,2006 in Albuquerque to celebrate accomplishments and present community action success stories.
The Summit goal is to motivate young American Indians to share excellence in leadership, network with student leaders from other communities and promote community action.
Friday evening dinner 6:00 pm, April 28, will feature student presentations on successful community service projects completed within the past year. It will also feature Youth Leadership Student of the Year awards. During the weekend students will also participate in team building exercises on high and low ropes courses and hands-on learning activities at Explora! Science Museum.
“These students are incredibly committed to making a difference in their communities,” said Paul Brown, Youth Leadership director at Futures for Children. “It is exciting to watch the students at the Summit share ideas about their hopes and plans for their communities.”
Futures for Children, a non-profit organization head-quartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, improves the quality of education for American Indian children through mentoring and training. Since 1968, Futures for Children has successfully delivered its program to Navajo, Hopi and Pueblo tribal communities motivating over 15,000 American Indian students to stay in school, graduate and achieve their potential.
