Youth Leadership Summits

Youth Leadership Summits

At the urging of Abbott Sekaquaptewa, Hopi tribal leader and board member of Futures for Children, Futures began a Youth Leadership effort in 1986.  The first Youth Leadership camp involved high school juniors and seniors for a week of leadership development activities.

Following this vision, Futures for Children continues to host annual Youth Leadership Summits, where youth leaders are teamed up with students from other tribes, communities and schools to participate in various team building activities, including ropes courses. Youth Leadership groups also practice public speaking, teamwork, and present their community project successes.

“I liked the accomplishments. We made a difference in our school and we learned the definition of teamwork.”

Youth Leadership Student of the Year, Katy Gorman (Navajo, Chinle)
