Youth Leadership

For nearly two decades, Futures for Children’s Second Circle of Support, Youth Leadership, has provided thousands of American Indian students with resources to turn possibilities into realities.

Began in 1986 as week-long summit for a handful of students, Youth Leadership has grown into a community based program serving over nine hundred students, their schools and communities in 2006-2007.

Futures believes that leadership emerges from within the community.  From the distant Hopi village of Moenkopi, to the four corners of the Navajo Nation, to the Pueblos along the Rio Grande, American Indian communities and schools in our service area have taken our leadership resources to guide their children in becoming community leaders.  At no cost to the communities and schools, Futures for Children provides the training, curriculum and follow-up support.  Through engaging in numerous experiential based leadership activities, planning and carrying out student driven service projects, students gain the knowledge and skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Futures for Children continues to provide Youth Leadership Summits so that these groups can network with one another and build on the skills learned with their ‘home’ group.
